In Hurricane and earthquake prone areas you may need to obtain additional engineering or architectural review. This must be done by a registered architect or structural engineer in your state or territory. New York, New Jersey, Nevada and parts of Illinois require this as well. Your local building official in most cases can provide you with a list of the information necessary. Because codes and enforcement vary greatly from region to region, state to state, county to county, and even city to city, your local building department is your greatest source of information.

Prairie style homes were established by Frank Lloyd Wright in the late 1800's. Also referred to as "organic architecture" these homes are designed only in color schemes found in nature. The long sweeping overhangs and extremely low pitch hipped rooflines accentuate the horizontal lines of the entire home. Planters, wing walls, clerestory windows and the famous Frank Lloyd Wright style stainded glass are common details found in the original prairie style homes. Originated by an architectural icon these homes have a distinct flavor and are ideally integrated with their environment.
